  16. Name of the song is “A Night in Tunisia” which was written by Jon Hendricks (words) and John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie and Frank Paparelli in 1946. It’s considered in the early bop style and it was introduced by the Dizzy Gillespie band (Musicraft Records).

Other recordings of note were made by Charlie Parker and Lennie Tristano. In 1981 the song enjoyed a revival of sorts when Chaka Khan included it in her album “What Cha’ Gonna Do For Me.”

  20. Great list, man. Obviously, the comments here contain other possible additions, but I quite enjoy your slide show (as well as one of the greatest Parker solos of all time in the background).

  21. No, he’s a saxophonist first.

On his Grammy’s, he’s listed as a saxophonist that plays clarinet.

However, people know him for his Latin Jazz clarinet playing, since he really has no equal in that field.

He’s also won the Downbeat award for best Jazz Clarinetist quite a few times.
